Tingkat Pengetahuan Pasien DM Tipe 2 terhadap Komplikasi Congestive Heart Failure di Rumah Sakit Prof. Chairuddin P. Lubis Universitas Sumatera Utara
Abstract
Background. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a global epidemic that predicted to affect over 592 million people worldwide by 2035, constituting approximately 90% of all diabetes cases. Congestive heart failure is a significant macrovascular complication in individuals with diabetes mellitus and is the leading cause of death in Indonesia. The incidence increased from 0.3% in 2016 to 1.5% in 2018. The rising prevalence of diabetes mellitus patients with congestive heart failure underscores the crucial role of patient knowledge in reducing the risk of mortality. Objective. To assess the level of knowledge among type 2 diabetes mellitus patients regarding congestive heart failure complications at Prof. Chairuddin P. Lubis Hospital, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan. Method. This study employed a descriptive approach with a cross-sectional design. Data were collected using questionnaires distributed to type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at Prof. Chairuddin P. Lubis Hospital, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan, and analyzed using the SPSS program. Result. The study included 78 respondents, comprising 31 males and 47 females. Variables investigated included gender, age, education level, occupation, and duration of DM. Overall, 55 respondents (70.5%) demonstrated good knowledge, 10 respondents (23.1%) had sufficient knowledge, and 5 respondents (6.4%) had insufficient knowledge. Conclusion. The level of knowledge among type 2 diabetes mellitus patients regarding congestive heart failure complications at Prof. Chairuddin P. Lubis Hospital, Universitas Sumatera Utara, is considered good.
