Abstract
This research aims to know the implementation of death rites in Japan especially in drama Saikou no Jinsei no Owarikata ~Ending Planner~ by Chiho Watanabe and the roles of sougiya in the drama. The methods that used for this research are method of analytics description, method of literature studies, method of translation, dan method of listening and note-taking. The approaches writer used for this research are theory of culture, theory of local wisdom, and theory of performance. The result of research showed that the implementation of the death rites in this drama can be costumized according to family’s condition, social status, and economic so it can be held with simple style or luxurious. Not only that, the death rites are done individually, do not involve neighbors to help them, and only rely to sougiya. Last, sougiya have a substantial resposibilities in the implemantation of death rites and so on memorial rites. Furthermore, sougiya in this drama is portrayed as a party that have sympathy even high degree of empathy during the death rites.
