Chemotherapy is the main option for treating breast cancer, but it can cause anxiety and affect patient readiness. Visualization therapy such as guided imagery is effective in reducing anxiety and helping patients overcome illness and improve the healing process. The research aimed to determine the effect of guided imagery therapy on the anxiety and alertness of breast cancer patients. This study used a quasi-experimental one-group pre-posttest design with a consecutive sampling technique. The number of respondents was 30 people and used the paired t-test. Intervention is given before carrying out chemotherapy, in the form of an audio record consisting of conceptualization, physical preparation, physical relaxation, visualization of a calm atmosphere, using the sense of imagination, positive sentences, and closure phase. The intervention was given for three days. Measurements were carried out before and after the intervention using the Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale (HADS) and Cancer Behavior Inventory (CBI) instruments. The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant difference between anxiety and readiness scores before and after the intervention (p-value < 0.05). There was a decrease in the anxiety score by 11.98%, as well as an increase in the readiness score by 16.71%. These findings indicate that Guided Imagery therapy increases the readiness of breast cancer patients to undergo chemotherapy.
