dc.description.abstractIntroduction. Ocular trauma is one of the most common causes of monocular blindness in the world. Ocular trauma is an ophthalmologic emergency that affects sharp vision due to damage to the structure of the eyeball caused by a foreign body. Objective. To analyze the relationship between the type of mechanical trauma of the eyeball and the decrease in visual acuity of patients at Prof. dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Hospital Medan for the period 2017-2023.Method. This study used Cross-sectional method with retrospective approach. This study was done using medical records of patients with mechanical trauma of the eyeball at Prof. dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Hospital Medan for the period 2017-2023. Results. From 22 patients in the study, the most common type of trauma was open globe injury (54,5%). The value of poor visual acuity was found dominantly in open globe injury (75%), p-value of 0,007(p<0,05). Conclusion. There is a relationship between the type of mechanical eyeball trauma and visual acuityen_US
