Background: Malignancy of the prostate is the fourth malignancy and the eighth leading cause of death in the world. The Gleason grading system is used to see the grade of prostate tumors. The greater the Gleason score, the worse and more aggressive the nature of the tumor, which is generally associated with invasive behavior that causes an increase in proteinase expression that can damage extracellular matrix components so as to facilitate the spread of cancer cells. In prostate carcinoma, Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) is involved in all stages of cancer cell progression from proliferation, angiogenesis, apoptosis, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and metastasis. MMP-9 plays an important role in degrading the surrounding tumor matrix and neural tissue during perineural invasion in prostate carcinoma. One of them MMP-9 plays a role in degrading the extracellular matrix and basement membrane, which is a prerequisite for invasion and metastasis.
Objective: To analyze the relationship of MMP-9 immunohistochemical expression with the Gleason Grading System International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) in prostate adenocarcinoma.
Materials and Methods: This study was an analytical study with a cross-sectional approach on 32 surgical samples diagnosed as prostate adenocarcinoma and then MMP-9 immunohistochemical staining. The data obtained in the study were processed with the help of statistical software and the relationship between MMP-9 immunohistochemical expression and the Gleason Grading System International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) in prostate adenocarcinoma was carried out by means of statistical tests.
Results: There was a significant association between MMP-9 immunohistochemical expression and the Gleason Grading System International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) in prostate adenocarcinoma (p=0,0007
