Tingkat Pengetahuan Siswa/i SMA Sutomo 1 Medan tentang Penggunaan Tabir Surya terhadap Pencegahan Risiko Kelainan Kulit Tahun 2023

Abstract

Background. Ultraviolet radiation (UV) has a positive effect and plays an important role in increasing the production of vitamin D. However, overexposure of UV radiation can be dangerous because it is considered carcinogenic. Therefore, it is necessary to take preventive measures, which can be done by using sunscreen. Sunscreen is a skin care cosmetic product used to protect the skin from UV radiation. Sunscreen reflects, absorbs, and scatters UV A and B radiation to provide protection against it. The main aim of using sunscreen is to minimize the damage caused by sun exposure. The selection of sunscreen products itself must be done carefully, namely paying attention to the type of sunscreen and its composition. Objective. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge of Sutomo 1 Medan City High School students regarding the use of sunscreen to prevent the risk of skin disorders. Method. The method used is quantitative descriptive with simple random sampling techniques. The research population was 100 students from Sutomo 1 high school Medan, from levels X, XI and XII. Results. Results of the analysis shows that the level of knowledge of Sutomo 1 High school Medan students was assessed as good (94%). Conclusion. The awareness of using sunscreen needs to be improved, considering that sunscreen plays an important role in preventing the impacts of UV radiation.
