    Abstract
Background. The increase population of Medan City from 2021 has an influence on people's consumption patterns such a waste production. Waste is not only creates environment pollution but also trigger diseases to the community such as intestinal parasites infection. Objective. Knowing the relationship between soil pollution by intestinal parasites and intestinal parasite infection in scavengers of Terjun Marelan landfill. Method. The type of research is analytic observation with a cross-sectional design. The research was conducted during September - October 2023 at Terjun Marelan landfill. Samples are soil which waste collected and feces from waste pickers who work in the area. This study used total sampling technique according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Instruments used in the study consisted of observation and microscopic examination. Soil samples were examined using the flotation method while feces were examined using the Formol-ether method. Examination results were analyzed using a categorical-parametric statistical test, chi-square. Result. 25 soil samples were found positive for intestinal parasites with the prevalence of intestinal parasites consisting of Hookworm larvae (23%), Hookworm eggs (3%), and A. lumbricoides eggs (8%). None of intestinal protozoa was found in the soil samples examined. For fecal examination, the results showed 14 sample positive with prevalence of intestinal parasites consisting of A. lumbricoides eggs (11%), Giardia lamblia cyst (2%), Hookworm eggs, Trichuris trichiura eggs, and Hymenolepis nana eggs at (1%) each. Conclusion. There is a significant association between soil pollution by intestinal parasites and intestinal parasite infection in scavengers of Terjun Marelan landfill (p-value = 0.003).
