    Abstract
    Background. Nomophobia is a form of modern-day fear characterized by the fear of not being able to communicate via mobile phone or internet. The prevalence of nomophobia among university students is high. Objective. Knowing the description of nomophobia in pre-clinical students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra. Methods. This research design is a descriptive type of research using quota sampling technique to determine the population taken as a sample. The subjects of this study were all pre-clinical students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra from the class of 2020, 2021, 2022. The data used is primary data obtained from a google form questionnaire. Analysis used by means of univariate analysis. Results. Based on the research conducted, the demographics of respondents aged 17-19 years were 55 respondents (36.7%), aged 20-22 years were 92 respondents (61.3%), and aged 23-25 years were 3 respondents (2%), then there were 46 male respondents (30.7%) and there were 104 female respondents (69.3%). The picture of nomophobia in this study is in general from all respondents, namely high category nomophobia as much as 46%. Based on class, the class of 2020 and the class of 2022 had the most in the high nomophobia category while the class of 2021 had the most in the moderate nomophobia category, then based on age, 17-19 years old had the most in the moderate category of nomophobia, while 20-22 years old and 23-25 years old had the most in the high category of nomophobia. Conclusion. Respondents were mostly 20-22 years old and female. In general, all respondents were high category nomophobia (46%) which was found in respondents of class 2022 and age range 20-22 years.
