dc.description.abstractIntroduction. Cancer is a disease that until recently was considered frightening for most people. Breast cancer is the first most common cancer in women and ranks as the second most common cancer in the world after lung cancer. The incidence of breast cancer in the world in 2020, found 2.3 million cases and cases reached 7.8 million by the end of 2020. In Indonesia, breast cancer cases reached 68,858 cases out of a total of 396,914 existing cancer cases with a mortality rate of around 22,000. Until now the number of breast cancer cases continues to grow. Where about 70% of cases are diagnosed with advanced stages. Early detection is needed to prevent breast cancer from being diagnosed at an advanced stage. One of the things that can be used in conducting early detection is to have good knowledge and skills in conducting BSE (Breast Self Examination), which can be done by yourself routinely every month at home. Objective. To determine the relationship between the level of knowledge about BSE and the incidence of advanced breast cancer in patients of the Prof. Dr. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Teaching Hospital, University of North Sumatra / RSP CPL USU. Methods. The research was conducted from August to October 2023 at RSP CPL USU. This research is a type of analytic research with a cross sectional study design. The sampling technique was total sampling, and a total sample of 43 respondents was obtained from the period January-October 2023. The samples of this study were female patients who had breast cancer and were undergoing treatment at RSP CPL USU.Results and Discussion. The results showed that there was a relationship between the level of knowledge of SADARI and the incidence of advanced breast cancer in USU CPL RSP patients with a p value of 0.019 obtained using the Pearson Chi-Square test (p <0.05). Conclusion. Through this study, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge of SADARI and the incidence of advanced breast cancer in RSP CPL USU patients.en_US
