| dc.description.abstract | This research focuses on the biography and meaning of Simalungun popular song texts by Lamser Girsang. Lamser Girsang was born August 5, 1963 in Bage, Silimakuta District, Simalungun Regency. Lamser Girsang is a Simalungun ethnic artist/singer, Lamser's career began in 1983 and has released many of his works to date. Some of his most famous or popular songs are Iluh Ni Niombah, Tor-torhon and Sandiwara. Lamser Girsang is also often invited to big events such as the Pesta Danau Toba, Rondang Bintang, Regent inauguration events, and other events. The purpose of this research is to find out the biography and the process and meaning of Simalungun popular song texts. To answer the above problems, the author uses several theories, namely, Biography theory to examine the life of a character, Semiotics theory to examine the meaning of the text and Weighted scale theory to examine the melody. In this research, the approach used is descriptive qualitative research method with data collection techniques, namely literature study, field study, interviews with informants, and recording documentation through photo/video/audio. The results of this research show that Mr. Lamser Girsang as a Simalungun artist succeeded in making his songs accepted by the Simalungun community.
