This study discusses the implementation of Japanese culture and the positive and negative values contained in the Karuta game in the film Chihayafuru by Yuki Suetsugu. The theories used in this research are cultural theory and representation theory in the media. The purpose of this research is to find out what Japanese culture is contained in the Chihayafuru film and what positive and negative values are contained in this Chihayafuru film. The method used in this research is literature study, and a qualitative approach method that is descriptive and analytical. The results of this research state that there are traditional Japanese games, namely Karuta, traditional Japanese clothing, namely Kimono, classical Japanese poetry, and Omi Jingu in this film. In this study the author analyzes the characteristics and cultural context in the film. This film provides a clear picture of how to play the traditional game of Karuta, about Japanese cultural heritage and how this culture is passed down from generation to generation. The author also appreciates how this film can influence viewers in their knowledge of Japanese culture and increase their understanding of positive values such as hard work, patience, courage, friendship, the spirit of not giving up and strong determination. while the negative value is trivializing formal lessons at school.
