    Abstract
Background. Sepsis is a medical emergency that is a response to infection and can result in regulatory failure and organ dysfunction. Sepsis with signs of organ dysfunction and worsening clinical symptoms can progress to severe sepsis and septic shock. One of the risk factors for sepsis is age where sepsis is more common in the elderly. Procalcitonin is a precursor to the hormone calcitonin which is an inflammatory response and plays a pathological role in sepsis. C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is a reactive protein as an inflammatory response which is the most commonly used clinical biomarker. Aim. To determine the relationship between procalcitonin and C-Reactive Protein levels in elderly patients with sepsis at Haji Adam Malik Medan General Hospital in 2020-2022. Method. This study is a retrospective analytical observational study using a cross-sectional approach based on secondary data from medical records obtained from the Haji Adam Malik Medan General Hospital. Data measurement of independent and dependent variables is only done and at the same time. Result. From the 87 samples, only 1 person did not experience an increase in procalcitonin and C-Reactive Protein levels while there were 78 people who experienced an increase in procalcitonin and C-Reactive Protein levels. In 7 people found only increased procalcitonin levels while in 1 person only experienced an increase in C-Reactive Protein levels. Based on the results of the Chi-square statistical test, the p value is 0.043 with a correlation coefficient of 0.217, which means that there is a relationship between procalcitonin and C-Reactive Protein levels. Conclusion. Founded a relationship between procalcitonin and C-Reactive Protein levels in elderly patients with sepsis at Haji Adam Malik Medan General Hospital with a weak correlation.
