    Abstract
Backgroung Corneal lamellar lacerations are emergencies in ophthalmology that involve partial thickness of the cornea. Curcumin is a polyphenol derived from Rhizopus which has the ability to accelerate wound healing Purpose To analyze the effect of curcumin eye drops on of lamellar corneal lacerations healing in terms of decreased expression of IL-1, TNF-α and NFκB and improvement of the histopathological features on cornea of Rattus norvegicus Methods This study was an ex vivo laboratory experimental study with a randomized post test only control group laboratory experimental design. Rattus Norvegicus experimental animals were given lamellar lacerations and then randomized into 5 treatment groups, namely artificial eye drops, 0.3% ofloxacin, 40 μmol/L, 80 μmol/L and 120 μmol/L curcumin 6 times a day for 5 days. Next, enucleation was carried out and examination of the expression levels of IL-1, TNF-α, NFκB and histopathological apperances of the cornea were carried out Result The sample for this study was 30 Rattus Norvegicus. There were significant differences in the expression of IL-1 (p=0.002) and TNF-α (p=0.002) and epithelial proliferation according to the Gal scale (p<0.001) in the five treatment groups. No significant differences in NFκB expression were found between the five treatment groups (p = 0.556). The best minimum dose of curcumin eye drops which has shown effectiveness in healing lamellar corneal lacerations of Rattus Norvegicus is curcumin 80 μmol/L Conclusion Curcumin was proved to accelerate the lamellar corneal lacerations healing in terms of decreased levels of IL-1, TNF TNF-α, NFκB and histopathological appearance of the cornea
