    Abstract
Heat-cured acrylic resin has weakness of absorbing water, which affects the stability of denture. Adding fiber to acrylic resin is a way to improve physical and mechanical properties. One natural fiber is banana stem fiber, which the fiber is taken from banana stem, crushed, dried and sifted using a mesh sieve to produce fiber powder. This research was to determine difference water absorption in heat-cured acrylic resin after adding 0.5, 1, 1.5% weight Barangan banana stem fiber powder. Sample used was He9at-cured acrylic resin in shape of disc with diameter 50 ± 1 mm and thickness 0.5 ± 0.05 mm. Sample was 10 pieces for each group, divided into 4 groups, without adding fiber powder (group I), adding 0.5% fiber powder by weight (group II), 1% fiber powder by weight (group III), adding 1,5% fiber powder weight (group IV). Water absorption measured by ISO No. 1567:1999. Mean results and standard deviation water absorption values in groups I, II, III, and IV were 6.70 ± 1.47 μg/mm3, 4.17 ± 1.27 μg/mm3, 5.65 ± 1.38 μg/ mm3, 5.98±1.78 μg/mm3. One-way Anova test showed there was a significant difference in water absorption in heat-cured acrylic resin after adding 0.5, 1 and 1.5% weight barangan banana stem fiber powder with a value of p=0.005 (p<0.05). Results of research can be concluded there was a decrease in water absorption after adding 0.5, 1, 1.5% Barangan banana stem fiber powder. There were insignificant differences water absorption of control and 1%, control and 1.5%, 1% and 1.5%.
