    Abstract
Background Education plays a crucial role in enhancing individuals' knowledge. The "Paru Sehat" application, developed by the Department of Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra, serves as a digital educational tool for asthma patients, with the primary objective of enhancing asthma-related knowledge. A comprehensive understanding of asthma acquired by patients significantly contributes to self-management, adherence to treatment regimens, and effective control of environmental triggers associated with asthma. Method The study employs a quasi-experimental design with a within-subject (pre-post) approach to assess changes in asthma knowledge levels using the Patient Asthma Knowledge Questionnaire (PAKQ) pre and post implementation of digital education via the smartphone application "Paru Sehat" once a week for a duration of 4 weeks. The sample size consists of 25 respondents selected through non-probability consecutive sampling technique. Results The univariate analysis was conducted using frequency distribution, revealing that the majority of respondents fell within the age range of 16 to 45 years (48%), primarily included female participants (80%), achieved bachelor degree (36%), dan and were identified as housewives (48%). The analysis of difference utilizing the Wilcoxon test indicated a significant difference in knowledge levels (p = 0.000) before and after receiving digital education through smartphone applications. Conclusion The study findings demonstrate a significant difference in asthma knowledge levels pre- and post-implementation of digital education through the smartphone application "Paru Sehat".
