A wound is a break in continuity of tissue that occur due to trauma or
surgery. In the field of oral surgery, incisional wound are one of the wounds that most
often occur after surgery. Incision wound can heal well but not infrequently can cause
complications so wound healing agents can be used in an effort to help the wound
healing. Giant mud crab shell is a natural material which can be processed into
chitosan which has potential to help the healing of incision wound in the oral cavity
mucosa. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of giant mud crab chitosan
gel for incision wound healing in the oral mucosa of Wistar rats. This type of research
is true experimental with the samples were male Wistar rats which were divided into
five groups, namely gengigel group as a positive control, chitosan gel 1%, 3%, 5%,
and CMC-Na as a negative control group. This research was carried out by observing
erythema and length of wound closure on days 1, 3 and 7. Pearson chi-square test and
Kruskall Wallis test showed that the use of 1%, 3% and 5% chitosan gel was effective
in healing oral mucosal incision wound in Wistar rats, with a concentration of 3%
chitosan gel is the most effective gel concentration
