dc.description.abstractThe oral cavity is the entry point for food and contains various microorganisms and bacteria. Some of these bacteria can cause post-tooth extraction infections, one of which is dry socket. Dry socket is a complication that delays healing after tooth extraction. One bacterium that can cause dry socket is Streptococcus viridans. Infection prevention can be achieved by administering antibiotics, but their use can lead to resistance. Therefore, researchers see an opportunity to harness the potential of nature as an alternative treatment. One natural substance that can be used is the Andaliman plant (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC). Andaliman fruit (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC) is a herbal plant that has antibacterial effects against Streptococcus viridans. The aim of this study is to investigate the antibacterial activity of Andaliman fruit extract (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC) against Streptococcus viridans in vitro. The research method is laboratory experimentation. The study uses Andaliman fruit extract at various concentrations: 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.125%, positive control, and negative control. These concentrations are then applied to the surface of paper discs to observe the inhibition zones at various concentrations. Subsequently, the inhibition zones for these concentrations are measured. The test results are analyzed using the Kruskall Wallis test and Post Hoc test (Mann-Whitney). The research results indicate average values for concentrations of 50% (9.725 mm), 25% (6.725 mm), 12.5% (6.5 mm), 6.25% (6.25 mm), 3.125% (6.225 mm), positive control (27.325 mm), and negative control (0 mm). Data analysis using the Kruskall Wallis test shows a significant value of p=0.000 (p<0.005). This indicates that the null hypothesis is rejected, and Andaliman fruit extract (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC) has inhibitory activity against Streptococcus viridans Furthermore, the Mann-Whitney test results show a significance level of p=0.011 (p<0.05). It can be stated that there is a significant difference between each treatment group in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus viridansen_US
