| dc.description.abstract | Glass ionomer cement (GIC) is a widely-used restorative material because of its fluoride releasing property. GIC mechanical properties can be improved by adding nano-hydroxyapatite filler synthesized from natural materials, such as tilapia scales. The aim is to determine the difference in GIC shear bond strength with the addition of 2,5,8% tilapia scales nano-hydroxyapatite calcined at 1000˚C on enamel. The 40 samples (GIC+nano-hydroxyapatite) were divided into 4 groups, namely the group without and with the addition of 2,5,8% nano-hydroxyapatite. Tablet-shaped samples (4 mm in diameter and 2 mm thick) were glued to the buccal premolars surface mounted in self polymerizing resin, sharpened using rotary grinder and applied using dentin conditioner. The ratios (GIC:nano-hydroxyapatite:liquid) used in group 1,2,3 and 4 were (0.170:0.000:0.050gr; 0.167:0.003:0.050gr; 0.161:0.009:0.050gr; and 0.156:0.014gr:0.050gr). The homogeneous mixture was put into a mold then given a 1kg load with a celluloid strip for 7 minutes. Samples were stored in distilled water for 24 hours before being tested on Universal Testing Machine. The average shear bond strength results in group 1,2,3 and 4 were 5.01±0.11MPa; 5.33±0.12MPa; 5.73±0.10MPa; and 6.12±0.11MPa. By using One-Way Anova test, there was a significant difference in GIC shear bond strength to enamel between groups (p<0.05). The highest strength value was found when adding 8% nano-hydroxyapatite. It can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the shear bond strength of GIC after the addition of nano-hydroxyapatite, the higher the resulting shear bond strength value | en_US |
