    Abstract
In the investigation process, blood group is one of the tools that can help narrow down the suspects in the process of identifying a person. Apart from blood, blood group antigens can also be detected in body fluids, one of which is saliva. This is possible in cases of crimes that leave no trace of the perpetrator, such as in cases of harassment, rape and robbery. People whose blood group can be determined from body fluids are called secretors, while the opposite is called nonsecretors. The aim of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of blood group examination from direct saliva compared to saliva absorbed on cigarette butts. This type of research is a quasi experimental. Direct saliva sampling was carried out using the draining method, while saliva on cigarette butts was obtained from subjects who were asked to smoke cigarettes up to a specified limit. Then the samples were tested using the absorption inhibition method. The results showed that the blood group examination detected from direct saliva samples was 90,6%, while from saliva samples absorbed in cigarette butts was 62,5%, then the data analyzed by chi square test showed a significant difference (p<0.05). The conclusion of this study is that the examination of blood groups from saliva samples collected directly is more effective than saliva samples on cigarette butts
