| dc.description.abstract | Introduction. Menarche is the onset of the first menstrual period in young women,
aged 10-16. Various factors influence the timing of menarche, including Body
Mass Index (BMI). Higher BMI is associated with an increased likelihood of early
menarche, which is identified as a breast cancer risk factor, currently the
predominant cancer among women in Indonesia an globally. Objectives. This
study aims to analyze the relationship between BMI and early, normal, and late
menarche, as well as to determine the average BMI and average age of menarche.
Methods. This observational analytic study utilized a cross-sectional approach.
Data was collected using total sampling of 221 third-grade female students in
junior high school. The analysis employed frequency distribution analysis, Chi-
Square test, and Kolmogorov – Smirnov test. Results and Discussion. The Chi-
Square test results between BMI and early menarche is p = 0,013, while between
BMI and normal menarche is p = 0,081. The Kolmogorov – Smirnov test results
between BMI and late menarche is p = 0,456. The average BMI in this study was
22,25, and the average age of menarche was 11,46 years. Conclusion. There is a
significant association between BMI and early menarche. No significant
association exists between BMI and normal menarche. There is also no significant
association be The average BMI in this study falls within the normal range, and
the average age of menarche in this study is lower than the 2019 national average
