| dc.description.abstract | Backgorund: Hyperglycemia frequently occurs in acute stroke patients as a reactive stress response, which can lead to worsening clinical outcomes. Objective: To find the correlation between NIHSS score and Random Blood Glucose Level in acute stroke patients. Methods: An analytical observational study using a Cross-sectional approach, utilizing data obtained from the medical records of acute stroke patients at H. Adam Malik General Hospital in Medan for the period spanning from 2021 – 2022. Results: The ischemic stroke type (62.9%) is more common than haemorrhagic stroke (37.1%). The male gender (55.7%) is more prevalent than the female gender (44.3%). The most common age group for acute stroke is 51-60 years with an average 55.9 ± 12.5 ranging from 26 - 83 years old. The average age of patients with ischemic stroke is 56.4 years ± 12.4, while for haemorrhagic stroke, it is 55.2 years ± 12.8. The average NIHSS for acute stroke patients is 9.3 ± 7.1 with a score ranging from 1-33. The average NIHSS for ischemic stroke patients is 7.2 ± 5.5, and for haemorrhagic stroke, it is 12.8 ± 8.2. The average Random Blood Glucose Level of acute stroke patients is 145.6 ± 87 with a score ranging from 70-583 mg/dL. The average Random Blood Glucose level for ischemic stroke patients is 133 mg/dL ± 63.3, and for haemorrhagic stroke patients, it is 167.2 mg/dL ± 114.9. The Chi-square test results between NIHSS score and Random Blood Glucose level show non-significant results (p=0.081). Conclusion: There is no correlation between NIHSS and Random Blood Glucose Level in Acute Stroke Patient. | en_US |
