Gambaran Tingkat Pengetahuan, Sikap, dan Perilaku terhadap Pembersihan Telinga Sendiri pada Siswa-Siswi Kelas XI SMA Negeri 5 Medan
Abstract
Introduction. Cerumen is a normal substance that serves to protect the ear canal.
Cerumen moves out through a self-cleaning mechanism where the epithelial tissue
layer of the external ear canal sheds regularly with trapped debris so there is no
need for external ear cleaning. Self-ear cleaning can cause complications and is a
common practice. People still lack information in this regard, therefore,
considering the importance of ear hygiene in daily life, this study was conducted to
obtain information on the extent of the description of the level of knowledge,
attitudes, and behavior towards self-ear cleaning in class XI students of SMA
Negeri 5 Medan. Objective. To know the level of knowledge, attitude, and behavior
of the students of class XI SMA Negeri 5 Medan regarding self-ear cleaning.
Methods. This study is a descriptive study using a cross-sectional design. Data
collection was done with simple random sampling technique using questionnaire.
The research subjects were 80 students of class XI SMA Negeri 5 Medan. Results
and Discussion. The majority of respondents were female (55%) and aged 16 years
(62.5%). A total of 57.5% of respondents had a sufficient level of knowledge
regarding self-ear cleaning, 44% had a sufficient attitude, and 83.8% had a
sufficient behavior. A total of 86.3% of respondents performed ear cleaning by
themselves. with 81.3% using cotton buds. Conclusion. Students of class XI SMA
Negeri 5 Medan have a sufficient level of knowledge, attitude, and behavior
towards self-ear cleaning.
