Hypertension is a condition of disease with high blood pressure which is also known as ‘the silent killer’. This is because hypertension is the most common health problem in a population group, but the general public is still unaware of the seriousness of this condition. Hypertension cases increase every year by a large percentage because this disease is often undiagnosed. The aim of this research is to determine the incidence rate of hypertension in students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra Class of 2020. This research is a quantitative research with a cross sectional study approach with a sample size of 76 people from a population of 264 students of the Faculty of Medicine of North Sumatra Class of 2020. The research was carried out in September 2023 - October 2023. The results of this study were that the incidence rate of hypertension was found to be 1.51%, the majority of this percentage were respondents with pre-hypertension 46.1%. The risk factors obtained include female gender 65.8%, in group of young adult age 21-22 years old 50%, family history of hypertension 48.7%, body mass index of overweight 13.2, smokers 7.9%, alcohol consumption 2.6%, history of drinking excessive coffee 50%, poor sleep quality 88.2%, eating salty food as main food 81.6% and eating salty food as side food 57.9%.
