    Abstract
In general, the capture fishing industry has benefited from technological advances in terms of motorization, including boat engines used by fishermen. However, the use of motorization can cause the effect of dependence on fuel oil. Therefore, any change in the price of fuel oil greatly affects fishermen in their fishing activities and in fulfilling their needs. Fuel oil is one of the important components in fishing activities. Fluctuations in the price of fuel oil felt by fishermen will have an impact on the sustainability of fishing activities, especially in the economic aspect. This study aims to analyze the survival strategies of small fishermen in meeting the needs of life after the increase in the price of fuel oil in Environment II of Pandan Village, Pandan District. The main informants in this study were five small fishermen living in Ward II of Pandan Village, a key informant namely the Pandan Village Subdistrict, and an additional informant namely one of the neighbors of the main informant who worked as a trader. Data collection techniques are carried out by literature study, observation, interviews and documentation. The data obtained in the field are analyzed qualitatively so as to obtain conclusions. The results of the study show that small-scale fishermen in Lingkungan II Pandan Village carry out several survival strategies in meeting their needs after the increase in fuel oil, namely diversification of livelihoods, diversification of fishing gear, extending working time, participation of wives in work, minimizing expenses, borrowing money from family and neighbors, and relying on assistance provided by the government
