Design of a Tool for Cracking and Separating Seeds from Candlenut Shells (Aleurites moluccana L)
Abstract
Candlenut (Aleurites moluccana
L ) is a group of annual plants and is one
of the multi purpose trees. Candlenut seeds contain up to 60 percent fat so that
when crushed and squeezed they produce oil. Candlenut oil can also be obtained
by extraction using a pressing tool. Peeling candlenuts is currently done using two
methods, namely the traditional (conventional) method and the help of machines.
This conventional peeling uses a stone as a base and then the candlenuts are beaten
on top of it. The aim of the re search is to produce a design for breaking and
separating tools for candlenut seeds and shells. This tool works by throwing the
candlenut against a crushing wall and separating the seeds from the shell like a
treaser and out into the seed channel and shell channel. Dimensions L×W×H = 88
cm × 64 cm × 150 cm. Research results show the effective capacity of the tool is
74.57 kg/hour. The yield of candlenut kernels is 27.77 %, the yield of candlenut
shells is 57.33 %, with losses of 4.22 %. Average sticky kerne ls are 10.11 %. Fuel
consumption is 1.14 l/hour. The break even point value of this tool is 16,957.7
kg/year. This tool is profitable to produce because it has an NPV value> 0, namely
IDR 53,739,658.7, year with an interest rate of 6 % and IDR year,
an interest rate of 10 The IRR value of this tool is 44.46
