Abstract

This study discusses the representation of forms of love and conflict in the main character in the film Love Will Tear Us Apart (我要我们在一起) by Shāmò (沙漠). This study aims to describe the forms of love and conflict in the relationship between the two main characters. The research method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative research. The theory used in this study is Sternberg's triangular love theory and Braiker and Kelley's relationship conflict. Lü Qinyang's (吕钦杨) intimacy is the determination to give a decent life to feel happiness. The intimacy of Ling Yiyao (凌一尧) is represented through her concern from cooking food to worrying about Lü Qinyan. Lü Qinyang's passion took the form of longing and declaration of love and kissing Ling Yiyao. Ling Yiyao's passionate form of love is shown through her wish for Lü Qinyang to always be near her. Lü Qinyang's decision/commitment is shown through his determination and commitment to marry Ling Yiyao so that he always loves Ling Yiao. Ling Yiyao's determination/commitment is shown through her determination to marry Lü Qinyang. The cause of the specific behavior conflict was Lü Qinyang's drunken behavior that made Lü Qinyang jealous of Luo Tingyu. The cause of the role norms conflict was that Lü Qinyang didn't keep his promise so Lü Qinyang went to Xinjiang without telling Ling Yiyao.
