This thesis is entitled Motifs on MonumentsMissionary Nommensen:
Semiotic Studies. This research aims to describe the shape of the motifs, describe
the function of the motifs found on the monumentMissionary Nommensen,
describes the meaning of the motifs found on the monumentMissionary
Nommensen. The theory used in analyzing data is the semiotic theory put forward
by Charles Sander Peirce. The method used in this research is a qualitative
descriptive method. In this research, results were found of 30 types of motif
forms, functions and meanings of motifs on monumentsMissionary Nommensen
include, Sumatran Forest Motif, House MotifKing Huta Sikkola Topas, RiverToru
trunkandPohon Haria, War between villages, Nommensen Tells Stories about the
Bible, Nommensen Bows and Prays, makes a cooperation agreement,
Nommensen Gathers Kings, Shaman Poisons Nommensen's Food, A Buffalo
Herder,Sombaon mothers, Nommensen Baptizes Four husband and wife, Women
Pounding Rice, Huta Dame Village(friedensdorf) in Saitnihuta, EventsAre Edge

MonumentsMissionary Nommensen. This research concludes that there are 30
forms of function and motif meaning that are important for understanding the
message on the Nommensen Missionary Monument. These motifs were created to
describe Nommensen's journey in spreading Christianity in Batak Land.
