User Perceptions of Reference Services in The Library at The State University of Medan

This research aimed to determine user perceptions of reference services at the Medan State University Library. The research used a descriptive method. The population of this study included all active members of the Library at the State University of Medan, totaling 28,867 people, and the sample in this study consisted of 100 people, determined using the Slovin formula. The sample was selected using the Accidental Sampling technique.
The study's findings illustrate how users of the State University of Medan Library view its reference services as follows: the indicator based on respondents' demographics: 35% of respondents are male, 65% are female, 55% are between the ages of 20 and 22, and 100% are undergraduate students; 86% of reference question indicators were categorized based on type, benefits, and objectives, placing them in the very good category; the indicator for user’s reference questions is 78%, which is in the good category; the indicators for reading sources and the availability of reference materials are 75%, which is in the good category; and the indicator for reference service officers in charge of services and service policies is 83%, which is in the very good category; the reference service cost indicator is 70%, which is in the good category; the reference service indicator is 85%, which is in the very good category. In conclusion, the average of indicators is 79%, which shows that reference services at the State University of Medan Library, according to user perception, are in a good category.
