Faktor-Faktor yang Mempengaruhi Minat Baca Siswa di Perpustakaan SMA Negeri 15 Medan

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting student reading interest at the library of State Senior High School SMAN 15 Medan. The qualitative descriptive method was employed in this study. The population of this study consisted of 1136 students for the academic year of 2023/2024, while the sample comprised 100 students. Data were collected through a survey and documentation, and the data analysis technique was percentage analysis. Based on the study and the researcher's observation, it is concluded that there are several external and internal factors influencing student reading interest. The internal factors include the lack of library management staff, lack of funding to improve student reading interest, limited library collection, limited space in the library, lack of library facilities, and the non-strategic location of the library. Meanwhile, the external factors involve the lack of participation from parties to improve student reading interest, the absence of an established collaborative network among libraries to improve students' reading interest, inadequate number of publishers participating in fostering reading interest, and the lack of book writers' effort to improve the students' reading interest.
