Karakterisasi Morfologi dari Modifikasi Aspal-Plastik dengan Limbah Polistirena (PS) yang Ter Grafting dengan Maleat Anhidrat dan Dikumil Peroksida
Abstract
This research examines the modification of polymer asphalt with polystyrene (PS) waste which is carried out in two stages. The first stage is the synthesis of PS through two methods, where the first method is dissolving polystyrene waste into purer polystyrene by reprecipitacing with methanol and the second method is grafting PS by refluxing maleic anhydride (MA) and dicumil peroxide (DCP) which is carried out at 135oC for 60 minute which is then characterized with FTIR shows the result of the C=O group at wavenumber 1871,1 cm-1 and is supported by vibration at wavenumber 1371,7cm-1-1028,7cm-1 which is the C-O bond of maleic anhydride. The results of the analysis of the thermal properties showed that the decomposition was carried out in two stages of mass loss. The first stage occurred at a temperature of 293,33oC and the second decomposition occurred at a temperature of 426,90oC with a total mass loss of 97,46%. The second stage is the process of mixing the resulting PS-g-MA with asphalt which is made in 4 types of variations in the ratio of 60/70 asphalt pen and 80:4%, 80:6%, 80:8% and 80:10% in 100 grams. The manufacture of modified asphalt is done by mixing pen asphalt 60/70 with PS-g-MA which is processed in a motorized stirrer at a temperature of 180oC for 30 minutes which is then characterized by viscosity test using a Brookfield Thermosel Viscometer and morphology analysis test using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The asphalt viscosity test results show the optimum value for the asphalt variation: PS-g-MA (80:4%). The results of morphology characterization with SEM showed that modified asphalt PS-g-MA with a ratio of 80:4% shows the best surface and appears homogeneous, there are no empy cavities on the surface.
