Management of Sibolga City Coastal Water Quality in The Efforts to Develop Sustainable Tourism

Sibolga is one of the cities in North Sumatera which has superior destinations in the field of marine tourism, some of which are Pelabuhan Lama beach and Ujung Sibolga beach. The purpose of this research is to analyze the coastal water quality of marine tourism objects in the city of Sibolga, determine the tourism suitability index, asses the carrying capacity of the area for beach recreation activities, and examine tourists perceptions of marine tourism objects in Sibolga. This research was conducted from March to July 2023 at Pantai Pelabuhan Lama (Anggar) and Pantai Ujung Sibolga. Thes assessment of water at Pantai Pelabuhan Lama (Anggar) obtained a total score of -18, while Pantai Ujung Sibolga received a total score of -26. The total scores for both tourism objects fall into class C, indicating a moderate level of pollution. The tourism suitability index for beach recreation at Pantai Pelabuhan Lama (Anggar) received a total score of 2.8, and Pantai Ujung Sibolga received a total score of 2.4. The carrying capacity of the area for beach recreation at Pantai Pelabuhan Lama (Anggar) is 332 people/day, while for Pantai Ujung Sibolga, it is 134 people/day. The implementation of this carrying capacity is necessary to ensure that tourism activities do not disrupt the natural balance of these tourism objects. The majority of tourists believe that litter pollution is a common issue at tourist locations, especially at Pantai Ujung Sibolga.
