dc.description.abstractThis paper describes the meaning, properties, function, and procedures of Midodareni. The purpose of this study identified and described Midodareni in Javanese Tradition as to described properties and functions. The method applied to describe methods with observation, taking some notes, asking some informants, interview bypass, and searching from the internet and journal. The results showed that there are ten properties of Midodareni, which are (1) Angsul-angsul, (2) Kancing Gelung/Cundhuk Ukel, (3) Naskah Catur Wedha, (4) Young Hen/Dhere, (5) Klasa Kalpa, (6) Cengkir Gading, (7) A Pair of Kembang Mayang, (8) Young Rooster/Jengger, (9) Paningset, and (10) Sanggan. And the functions of Midodareni, which are (1) to deliver marriage dowry, (2) family union, (3) aform of respect to ancestor. Furthermore, Midodareni is not an obligation, but the implementation of midodareni in Javanese weddings is seen as a form of respect for ancestral culture in Yogyakarta which has a unique culture with various traditions/ existing customs passed down by their predecessors to the present generation from generation to generation.en_US
