Impact of Infrastructure Development on Economic Growth in North Sumatera Province

This study research the impact of infrastructure development and convergence on
economic growrh in North Sumatra Province which is focusing in four regions,
east coast, west coast, highland, and islands. Analysis Panel Least Square method
using time series data 2018-2022. The results of the analysis indicate that Gross
Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF) has a positive and significant impact in the
eastern coast and highlands, while in the western coast and islands has a negative
yet significant impact. Average Schooling Years (ASY) has a positive and
significant impact in most regions, except in the islands where the positive impact
but not significant. Electrical infrastructure have positive and significant impacts
in all regions, road infrastructure has a positif and positive impact in west coast
and highland, in east coast and regions has positive but not signivicant impact.
While the impact of clean water infrastructure varies. Convergence analysis
reveals σ-convergence in the eastern coast region, while β-convergence is
identified in all regions with varying convergence rates but lagging districts/cities
took a very long time catch up with the the rowth of developing with half life of 47
years in eastern coast region, 82 years for western coast, 19 years in highlands
and the islands region has 29 years.
