dc.description.abstract | Background: Handbody Lotion is a class of cosmetic preparation emollients (softeners) that contain more water. Hydroquinone is chemical compound in the form of white, needle-shaped crystals, odorless, chemical formula C6H4(OH)2 with the chemical name 1, 4-benzendiol or quinol and experiences oxidation to light and air. Hydroquinone in cosmetics is capable exfoliates the outer skin and inhibits the formation of melanin makes skin look black.
Purpose: This research aims to analyze qualitatively and quantitative hydroquinone compounds contained in handbody lotion preparations which is sold online.
Method: This research includes stages of sampling handbody lotion which is obtained online via the Shopee application. Then it's done qualitative analysis using the color reaction method. Then followed by quantitative analysis using the method ultraviolet spectrophotometry at a maximum wavelength of 293 nm.
Results: From the analysis carried out, the hydroquinone content in samples A; 0.68%, B; 0.60%, C; 0.74%, D; 0.89% and E; 0.80%. On validation method, this method meets the method validation requirements with coefficient values correlation (r); 0.997, relative standard deviation (RSD) value in sample A; 0.03%, B; 0.11%, C; 0.79%, D; 0.00% and E; 0.13%, Limit Of Detection (LOD) value; 1.551934275 μg/ml and Limit Of Quantification (LOQ) value; 5.17311425 μg/ml.
Conclusion: Based on BPOM RI Number 23 of 2019 concerning technical requirements for cosmetic ingredients, all handbody lotion samples are unsafe used because it contains hydroquinone. Ultraviolet Spectrophotometric Method in the analysis of the hydroquinone content in handbody lotion preparations good validity because it meets the validation requirements for linearity test parameters, precision, LOD and LOQ | en_US |
