dc.description.abstractThis research is a descriptive study that aims to determine the nationalism of the poor in Medan city. This research uses quantitative methods. The sampling technique is nonprobability sampling with accidental sampling method. The sample in this study were people who live in Medan city with an age range of 18-64 years who earn <500,000 with a total of 106 participants. The data obtained were processed with descriptive analysis using the IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0 application. The measuring instrument is a nationalism scale adapted by the umbrella research team based on aspects of Blank & Schmidt (2003). The results of the overall analysis showed that the nationalism of the poor in Medan city as many as 81 (76.4%) participants had low nationalism, 8 (7.5%) participants had moderate nationalism, and 17 (16%) participants had high nationalism. The results of the analysis of each aspect of nationalism show that the majority of participants are in the low category. In the aspect of generalized positive assessment of the nation, 74 (69.8%) participants were in the low category, 16 (15.1%) participants were in the medium category, and 16 (15.1%) participants were in the high category. In the aspect of feelings of superiority, 85 (80.2%) participants were in the low category, 6 (5.7%) were in the medium category, and 15 (14.2%) were in the high category. In the aspect of nation-related tendencies of idealization, 74 (69.8%) participants were in the low category, 16 (15.1%) participants were in the medium category, and 16 (15.1%) participants were in the high category. The results of the analysis of each factor showed that the majority of participants were in the low category. In the age factor with a range of 18-40 years, 50 (47.2%) participants were in the low category, 7 (6.6%) were in the medium category, and 14 (13.2%) were in the high category. In the age factor with a range of 41-60 years, 31 (29.2%) participants were in the low category, 1 (0.9%) participant was in the medium category, 3 (2.8%) participants were in the high category. In the religion factor, there are two religions with the highest results, namely Islam as many as 63 (59.4%) participants are in the low category, 6 (5.7%) participants are in the medium category, and 16 (15.1%) participants are in the high category. Protestant Christianity as many as 16 (15.1%) participants were in the high category. Protestant Christian religion as many as 16 (15.1%) participants were in the low category, 2 (1.9%) participants were in the medium category, and 0 (0%) participants were in the high category. The overall results showed that the majority of participants had low nationalism.en_US
