The Role of Perceived Social Support on Social Media Addiction in Early Adulthood
Abstract
This research consists of an independent variable, namely Perceived Social Support and a dependent variable, namely Social Media Addiction. The purpose of this research is to find out whether Perceived Social Support plays a negative role in Social Media Addiction. This research used quantitative methods with a sample size of 349 people who were in early adulthood, namely 18 to 40 years. The sampling technique uses convenience sampling. Data collection used in this research used the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) scale which consists of 12 items and the Social Networking Addiction Scale (SNAS) scale which consists of 21 items. The statistical method uses simple linear regression analysis using the SPSS application. The results of this research show an R Square value of .094 and a coefficient of -.652, which means there is a negative role between Perceived Social Support and Social Media Addiction. Apart from that, the dimension of Perceived Social Support that has the most influence on Social Media Addiction is the family dimension with a percentage of 7.2%. These results can be used as reference material for further similar research.
