Description of Future Anxiety in Vocational High School (SMK) X Medan
Abstract
Vocational High Schools (SMK) are schools that aim to prepare the students to become graduates who are ready to work, but it turns out that the contributors to the TPT (Open Unemployment Rate) are more or dominated by graduates of Vocational High Schools (SMK). This is due to several factors such as the mismatch between the competence of graduates and the needs in the job market, competition that occurs not only from graduates of the same level, or even other challenges that then trigger fear and anxiety for students after graduation including for their future lives. This anxiety about the future is called future anxiety. This research uses descriptive quantitative research at Vocational High Schools (SMK) in Medan to find out how the description of future anxiety experienced by Vocational High School Students. The sample in this study were SMK students from classes X and XI totaling 245 students. It was found that vocational high school students experienced future anxiety dominated by moderate levels of future anxiety. Characteristics of future anxiety can include feelings of fear, physical tension and negative thinking.
