dc.description.abstractThis research aims to find out how to express rejection and forms of speech about rejection in the interactions of the coastal Malay community at Cermin Beach. This research uses a qualitative method by applying data collection techniques through free listening, recording and note-taking. The instruments used in the research were recording equipment, writing instruments and cameras. The theory in this research is pragmatic theory. The results of this research found that there are 5 ways of speech acts of rejection, namely rejection with a reason, rejection with thanks, rejection by giving advice, rejection with a time delay, rejection with an apology and the forms of rejection speech found in this research are direct and indirect rejection. Meanwhile, direct rejection is divided into 3, namely command sentences, question sentences and notification sentences. Indirect rejection is a rejection that takes the form of an excuse but means rejection.en_US
