dc.description.abstract | This research aimed to investigate the preservation of static archives at the Library and Archives Service of Deli Serdang Regency. This was a qualitative descriptive study. The informants in this research were determined using a purposive sampling technique. There were 2 informants, namely the archival staff and the archivist. The data analysis techniques involved data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The data were collected through interviews, observation, documentation, and data testing using triangulation, namely source triangulation, theory triangulation, and method triangulation. The findings show that preventive preservation and curative preservation have been carried out, in accordance with the Regulation of the Head of the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia Number 23 Year 2011 concerning Guidelines for Static Archive Preservation. Preventive Preservation: Archive storage makes use of many storage locations as well as the static archive storage technique. First, materials are sorted and then placed into archive boxes, which are labeled before being placed in the static archive storage. Archive handling: old archives just need to be dust-free; those that are beginning to show signs of damage are relocated to storage where they are kept at a steady room temperature. Pest Control: To prevent damage to the paper, each box is treated with camphor and fumigated or sprayed once every six months. The storage room has a 20°C temperature setting. Sweeping, using a feather duster to clean archive boxes, and choosing incoming archives by examining their physical state and contents are the methods used to clean the space. Only employees of the Deli Serdang Regency Library and Archives Service are permitted access to storage space. Reproduction of static archives has not been accomplished. The only preparation for disasters that has been conducted is installing fire extinguishers, such as hydrants, in rooms; curative preservation has not been implemented. | en_US |
