The research entitled the marsuan-suanan ritual in the context of cultural preservation and tourism development is a study in the context of cultural preservation and tourism development in the Tipang area, Baktiraja District in Humbang Hasundutan. This tradition has the potential for commodification because it has selling value. In accordance with Mosco's (2009) theory, commodification is the process of changing goods and services and their intrinsic value into commodities with exchange value. This research aims to find out the forms and stages of this tradition so research was carried out using observation methods and interview methods with local traditional leaders. From the research results, it is known that the marsuan-suanan tradition itself can experience commodification because each stage has local wisdom values that can be used as cultural tourism.
