Fenomena Self-Presenting pada Tampilan Media Sosial Tiktok (Studi Deskriptif pada Mahasiswi FISIP Universitas Sumatera Utara)
The Self-Presenting Phenomenon on Tiktok Social Media Display (Descriptive Study of FISIP Female Students, University of North Sumatra)
Abstract
The TikTok application has the advantage of allowing individuals to express
themselves by doing self-presenting, an act of presenting oneself carried out by each
individual to achieve a desired self-image. Self-presentation can generally be seen
from what content is of interest and how the content concept is created by the
informant. The research method used is a descriptive research method with a
qualitative approach. Data collection techniques use observation, interviews and
documentation methods. Research informants were determined using purposive
techniques. The research results show that the self-presenting phenomenon among
USU FISIP students on the TikTok application is carried out by showing a positive
and good self-presentation. Using popular hashtags for FYP is done to increase the
number of followers, profile visits, get likes, feedback and even get endorsements.
Managing impressions (editing), following videos that are trending, viral and
challenging. There are role models to see content that people are interested in, like,
and use as a reference in creating content. The self-presenting phenomenon can
become a phenomenon on TikTok due to its ease and creative features, diverse
content, audience, and TikTok's high algorithm. USU FISIP students' front stage on
TikTok was done with setting, performance and impression management to realize
the self-presenting concept that had been conceptualized before being uploaded and
viewed by other users. The back stage of student life is carried out as usual, such as
studying, discussing, reading books and journals, group work, organizing and being
active in lectures.
