Comparison Between Native Speaker and Nonnative Speaker in Improving English Speaking Ability of 11th Grade Students at SMA N 1 Bahorok
Abstract
This thesis analyzes the comparison between native English speaker and non-native
English speaker in improving speaking ability of 11th grade students at SMA N 1 Bahorok
through supplementation of EFL (English as a Foreign Language) education which involved
two native speakers from England who were volunteering at International NGO Bukit Lawang
Trust, two non-natve speaker (English teachers at SMA N 1 Bahorok) and 70 students as the
experiment group and the control group. This research proves that in terms of improving
English speaking skill for students at SMA N 1 Bahorok, it is better to use native speaker
directly rather than non-native speaker to improve English speaking skill that it shows from the
final score from the research. The result of this research shows that the contribute of the native
speaker in terms of improving English speaking skill of the Indonesian students can be very
impactful to increase the speaking ability that still low in Indonesia, with the International NGO
like Bukit Lawang Trust that given the free EFL education from native English speaker which
the volunteer in the NGO for the Indonesian students so that to increase the English speaking
ability can be help significantly.
