Sikap Orang Tua Peserta Perempuan Olahraga Bela Diri Muay Thai di Kota Medan terhadap Belenggu Budaya Patriarki

Abstract

This research aims to describe the patriarchal culture that shackles women who participate in the Muay Thai martial arts sport in the city of Medan. This research uses qualitative research with a descriptive approach method. The technique for determining informants in this research uses the snowball sampling technique, whic h is a technique for collecting data sources whose numbers are initially small and then become larger. There are 2 categories of informants in this research, namely main informants (parents of female muay thai participants), supporting informants (muay tha i owners or trainers). The data collection techniques used in this research were observation, in depth interviews, and documentation. The results of this study show that parents of female muay thai participants allow their daughters to take part in the mar tial arts sport of muay thai due to several factors such as self protection, for health, to shape their physique, can reduce the effects of trauma due to sexual harassment, non patriarchal thinking, and reject shackles of patriarchal culture.
