This research aims to describe the dragon’s characters and cultural background in the film How to Train Your Dragon and Raya and The Last Dragon. Both films feature mythological creatures as their main characters, making them attractive in contemporary cinema. The mythological creature used is the dragon, whose existence is still uncertain, whether real or purely imaginative. The researcher acknowledges the differences in the manifestation of characters from the same object, prompting an investigation to dicover influencing factors. In the compilation of this thesis, data from the films and previous relevant researches are used. In collecting the data, the researcher is using qualitative descriptive method. This research employs Graham Little's theory to describe characters through their physical appearance, social status, social relationship, and personality. In analyzing the cultural background, researcher is using Abraham's theory that focus on the specific place where the events occur or influence by. From this research, the author concludes that the dragon in each film brings their own physical appearance, social status, social relationship, and personality. The difference between both dragons were influenced by the cultural background that represented by each film.
