Nurse scheduling is something that must be considered in a hospital.
Scheduling nurse work shifts is needed to regulate working hours so that the quality
of nurses' work is well maintained and has a positive impact on the hospital when
serving patients. According to observations made at RSU HKBP Balige, nurses' work
shift arrangements experience uneven shift scheduling for each nurse and the number
of nurse shifts is not fulfilled in accordance with hospital regulations. The aim of this
research is to solve scheduling problems using a Genetic Algorithm. The genetic
algorithm is a heuristic method where the chromosomes that survive are the strong
chromosomes, while the weak chromosomes will become extinct. The aim is to obtain
optimal parameter values for each nursing schedule. The variables used in this
research are the nurse's name, room, length of shift working hours and number of days
the nurse works. There are two testing components carried out in this scheduling to
obtain optimal parameters, including testing the crossover rate and mutation rate
values with the highest fitness value of 1. The results of scheduling using the Genetic
Algorithm showed an increase in the number of working hours of nurses in each
Operating and anesthesia room 9%, Bethlehem Nazareth 11%, Zarephath 13%,
Siloam 18%, Judea 11%, Picu Nicu 10% and meets hospital regulations. From this it
can be concluded that the application of a genetic algorithm to optimize nurse
scheduling gets the best solution.
