The consequences of life divorce or death divorce will create a single parent family. Single Parent is a family consisting of a single parent, both father and mother, as a result of divorce or death. Single Parent families will have double duty. When there is no father, the mother's role as breadwinner and child caretaker increases. Single-parent families can be headed by either a woman or a man. However, based on various reference sources, the majority throughout the world have more families with a single female parent than families with a single male parent. To meet the family's needs, the mother will work hard to earn a living and look after the child's development. The research was conducted in Padang Merbau Village, Tebing Tinggi City. The key informant in this research is the Head of Padang Merbau Village. The main informants in this research were three single parents in Padang Merbau Village who did not have permanent jobs. Additional informants in this research were neighbors and children of the Main Informant. Data collection techniques used observation and interviews. The data obtained in the field was then analyzed by researchers who described using a qualitative approach. Until finally conclusions can be drawn from the results of this research. The research results show that mothers as single parents play two roles to achieve family prosperity. The research results show that single parent women in Padang Merbau Village have carried out their dual roles seriously to fight for the welfare of their families. From the research conducted, it can be seen that the results of the single parent's dual role efforts have not been able to raise the family's standard of living to become a prosperous family in accordance with welfare indicator benchmarks, but are only able to meet basic or basic needs.
