Coersive Communication Used by Hercule Poirot in Murder on The Orient Express Movie
Abstract
This research entitled ―Coersive Communication Used by Hercule Poirot in Murder on The Orient Express Movie‖. The purpose of this research is to provide a deeper understanding of the use of coercive communication in the context of the character Hercule Poirot in the film "Murder on the Orient Express". The concepts in this research are mass communication, film, semiotics, Roland Barthes semiotics, semiotics in films, murder film synopsis on the orient express, and coercive communication in films. The theory in this research is Roland Barthes' semiotics. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive research methods. The data collection technique used is observation. The data that has been collected will be analyzed using Roland Barthes' semiotics. Testing the validity of the data was carried out using a credibility test. The results of the research showed that the scenes in the film Murder on The Orient Express had a denotational meaning obtained from the signs in each scene. The connotative meaning was obtained from the denotational signs whose meaning was then explained.
