Bagasse has a cellulose content of 35.01%. Where the very high cellulose content has the potential as activated carbon. Activated carbon is used as an adsorbent for heavy metals. The purpose of this study was to see the effect of bagasse activated carbon in reducing heavy metal levels with variations in combustion temperatures of 300 o C, 400 o C, and 500 o C with a contact time adsorption of 120 minutes and see the percentage decrease in heavy metal levels of Iron (Fe) and Chromium (Cr) before and after the addition of bagasse activated charcoal and commercial activated charcoal. The experiment was carried out on a laboratory scale using the static adsorption method ( batch) . Characterization was carried out on activated charcoal using an X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) tool. The samples used were directly taken from the residents' borehole water located in Naga Jaya 1 Village, Bandar Huluan District, Serbelawan Simalungun Regency and preserved with HNO 3(p) until pH < 2 then the sample was destroyed. Metal concentrations of Iron (Fe) and Chromium (Cr) were determined using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) with specific wavelengths, namely Fe = 248.3 nm and Cr = 357.9 nm before and after adsorption. The results showed that the concentration of iron (Fe) and Chromium (Cr) in the borehole water after the addition of bagasse activated charcoal decreased. Bagasse activated charcoal with variations in combustion temperatures of 300 0 C, 400 0 C, and 500 0 C within 2 hour absorbs iron (Fe) by 87.18%, 81.83%, and 83.05% and absorbs chromium metal. (Cr) of 96.86%, 99.45%, and 99.35%. Meanwhile, commercial activated charcoal absorbs 45.49% iron (Fe) and 99.56% chromium (Cr) metal. The conclusion from the results of this study showed that the effectiveness of the percentage (%) reduction of iron (Fe) and chromium (Cr) by using bagasse activated carbon with a combustion temperature variation of 300 o C was greater and more effective.en_US
