Radio over Fibre (RoF) is a technique for transmitting radio signals through
optical fiber cables. In RoF transmission, Radio Frequency (RF) signals are modulated
into optical signals using Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) modulators. By
combining RoF transmission with appropriate amplifiers, we can enhance the performance
of Bit Error Rate (BER) and Q-factor. In this study, the Radio over Fiber system measures
the Q-factor and BER values with and without the use of Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier
(EDFA). The performance of Radio over Fibre (RoF) is evaluated with variations of QAM,
including 4-QAM, 8-QAM, 16-QAM and 32-QAM. Throughout the experiments, the use
of 4-QAM modulation demonstrates better functionality compared to 8-QAM, 16-QAM,
and 32-QAM. This is evidenced by the Q-factor performance value of 15.23, BER of
1.09 x 10-52, and OSNR of 126.77 dB for the 50 Km test parameter using EDFA
amplification. The use of EDFA increases the transmission distance by 5 Km compared to
not using EDFA.
