Antimicrobial resistance is a global issue and was considered one of the top ten threats to global health by the WHO in 2019. Inappropriate prescribing and overuse of antibiotics are considered major drivers of increasing resistance. This cohort study aims to assess the effect of implementing antibiotic stewardship (AMS) on the quantity and quality of antibiotic use in the intervention (KI) and non-intervention (KNI) groups in surgical inpatients at RSUD dr.Fauziah Bireuen. This research design is descriptive - analytic with a cohort design, using patient medical record data. The intervention provided is the implementation of PGA in the form of retrospective audits and feedback. The sampling technique used was total sampling with the inclusion criteria of patients aged ≥12 years and receiving at least one oral or parenteral antibiotic during hospitalization. Analysis of antibiotic quantity data uses theDDD/100 patient days and DU90% indicators, while analysis of quality data uses the Gyssens method. The data obtained was analyzed descriptively and statistically using SPSS. The results of the study showed that there were significant differences (p≤ 0.05) in the quantity of antibiotic use in the non-intervention group (95.4 DDD/100 patient days) and the intervention group (49.0 DDD/100patient days). There was a decrease in the irrational use and an increase in rational use of antibiotics in KI, and there was a significant relationship between the rationality of antibiotic use and the implementation of PGA (p≤ 0.05). There were no significant differences (p ˃ 0.05) between the length of stay of KNI (4.98±2.40)and KI (4.85±2.25).This study concludesthat the implementation of retrospective audits and feedback significantly influences the quantity and quality of antibiotic utilization.en_US
